HIP PAIN AND MUSCLE TIGHTNESS

Care for sore, tight hips, in Carefree on the Cave Creek border. In most cases we can see you the same day.

WHAT CAUSES HIP PAIN?

Hip pain can come from tight or strained muscles and tendons, often after intense or repeated exercise. The low back can refer pain to the hip area. It can also come from bursitis, which causes pain at the side of the hip that may spread down the thigh and is often worse when lying on that side. Arthritis is more common after age 45 and causes pain when walking and stiffness after rest.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What can I do at home?
Stay active without overdoing it, try gentle hip stretches, and wear supportive, cushioned shoes. A wrapped ice pack for up to 20 minutes every two to three hours can help. Avoid heavy lifting and low chairs.
When should I get my hip checked?
If pain is getting worse, keeps coming back, has not improved after two weeks, disrupts your sleep or daily activities, or if your hip is stiff for more than 30 minutes after you wake up.
Do I have arthritis?
An exam is the place to start. If anything suggests arthritis or another problem that needs imaging, we will refer you.
Can I be seen the same day?
In most cases, yes. Call 480-488-1282, or request an appointment online and we will call you back.
