GOLF AND PICKLEBALL INJURIES

Care for the backs, shoulders, elbows and heels of Carefree, Cave Creek and North Scottsdale golfers and pickleball players.

WHAT WE SEE MOST

Both sports ask a lot of the same body parts: a turning spine, a working shoulder, a gripping forearm and feet that push off and stop quickly.

Lower back painRepeated twisting and bending, especially when the hips and mid-back are stiff.
Mid-back and rib stiffnessLimits your turn, so other joints work harder to make up for it.
Golfer's and tennis elbowIrritated forearm tendons from gripping and repeated swings.
Shoulder strainFrom overhead shots, serves and long range sessions.
Knee, heel and Achilles painFrom quick starts, stops and side-to-side moves on hard courts.

STAYING IN THE GAME

  • Warm up for five to ten minutes before you play: a brisk walk, gentle trunk turns and easy practice swings
  • Build up gradually after time off or when you first arrive for the season
  • Wear court shoes with good support for pickleball
  • Drink water before and during play, especially in the Arizona heat
  • Stop if you feel sharp pain, a pop, or pain that changes how you move

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Should I play through the pain?
Not if it is sharp, getting worse, or changing how you swing or move. Playing on can turn a small strain into a longer problem. Get it checked early.
What are the most common pickleball injuries?
Strains of the lower back, shoulder and forearm tendons, plus knee, heel and Achilles problems from quick starts and stops.
Can you help with golfer's or tennis elbow?
Yes. We treat the elbow and look at the shoulder, wrist and neck too. Shockwave therapy is a common choice for tennis and golfer's elbow.
I felt a pop at the back of my ankle. What should I do?
Stop playing and get seen urgently. A sudden pop with pain at the back of the ankle can be an Achilles tendon injury.
Can I book a massage after a tournament?
Yes. Massage can be booked on its own, in 60, 90 or 120 minute sessions.
