SCIATICA AND DISC PAIN

Gentle, non-surgical care for back pain that runs into the buttock or leg, in Carefree on the Cave Creek border. In most cases we can see you the same day.

WHAT IS SCIATICA?

Sciatica is pain that travels from the lower back or buttock down the back of the leg, sometimes with numbness or tingling. It happens when a nerve root in the lower spine is irritated. A bulging or herniated disc is one of the most common causes. Narrowing around the nerves and tight muscles deep in the hip can cause similar pain.

The good news is that sciatica usually improves within a few weeks to a few months, although it can last longer and can come back. Staying gently active tends to help more than resting in bed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long does sciatica take to get better?
It varies. Sciatica usually improves within a few weeks to a few months, but it can last longer. We check your progress at every visit and change the plan, or refer you, if you are not improving.
Do I need an MRI before I come in?
Usually not. Most people start with an exam. If anything in your history or exam suggests you need imaging, we will tell you and refer you.
Should I rest in bed?
Generally no. Keeping up normal activity as much as you can and starting gentle exercise early tends to help. We will show you movements that are safe for you.
Is spinal decompression covered by insurance?
Spinal decompression is a self-pay service. Chiropractic adjustments are covered by most insurance plans and by Medicare.
Can I be seen the same day?
In most cases, yes. Call 480-488-1282, or request an appointment online and we will call you back.
